Fabrication Guides · 07/08How to plug weld liners
- Cut plug holes through the liner on a 300–500 mm grid (closer on curved or high-impact surfaces).
- Position the liner and weld through each hole into the parent structure with low-hydrogen electrode or MIG — the weld bonds to backing steel and structure, not overlay.
- Fill each plug in layers, keeping heat input moderate to limit distortion.
- Cap each plug with QARC™ hardfacing flush to the wear surface.
- Finish with a perimeter fillet weld or intermittent stitch to seal edges against fines ingress.
