How to cut chromium carbide overlay plate

CCO plate cannot be cut with oxy-fuel — the high-chromium overlay will not oxidise cleanly. Use one of the following:

  • Plasma arc (preferred) — a 200 A machine cuts most standard thicknesses. Always cut from the mild steel side to prevent carbon contamination of the backing plate.
  • Water jet — best edge quality and no heat-affected zone; ideal for intricate liner profiles and CSK holes.
  • Laser — suitable for thinner combinations.
  • Arc-air / carbon-arc gouging and abrasive saw — suitable for site work and trimming.

Bevelling for weld prep is permitted from the hard side by grinding.

QAME supplies plate cut-to-size and profiled to your DXF drawings — ask about our cutting service.
